The Greater Greenwood Chamber is reaching out to entrepreneurs and innovators with a program designed to develop business skills. Through its Greenhouse initiative, the program will discuss best practices to plan, launch and grow a business while navigating a rapidly changing economy. The event will take place Wednesday, June 5, 4-5:30 p.m. at MashCraft Brewing Co. Guest speaker at the event will be Steve Spencer, president and CEO of Spencer Management Group of Greenwood. Spencer has had a distinguished career as a designer and manufacturer of medical devices, and he has extensive experience leading start-ups and turn-arounds. Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business has recognized Spencer eight consecutive years as one of the Top 100 Business Growth Executives in the State of Indiana. Brent Tilson, entrepreneur and founder of Greenwood-based Tilson business management consulting, will moderate the program. He serves as Greenhouse’s entrepreneur-in-residence, moderating the programs and providing visionary guidance to the Greenhouse entrepreneurial community. Tilson was a driver of the organization’s formation in 2017 through the Chamber, which provides ongoing support and resources. “Greenhouse was organized to provide the resources, collaboration and guidance needed by professionals to make their businesses succeed,” explained Tilson. “Our goal is to provide motivated leaders with access to business expertise and real-world experiences.” Participants work as teams to solve the business challenges detailed in case studies submitted by local companies. Chamber President and CEO Christian Maslowski added, “In creating Greenhouse with Brent, our goal was to foster a culture of learning and business collaboration with a focus on communication and leadership, design thinking, customer experience, and creative and critical thinking. We like to think of it as a ‘collaborative learning hub’ for company owners, thought leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs. “Greenhouse builds on the concept of co-working communities, which have revolutionized opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses alike and serve to broaden the impact of their organization. We’re eager for Steve to share his experience and expertise leading start-up organizations.” This is the second in a series of three programs in 2019, culminating with a competition for the annual Innovation Award. The program is open to all community entrepreneurs. For this event, due to the generosity of our sponsors, the entrance fee has been waived.
