By: Dustin Brenton, Digital Media Manager, Digital AIM Media Advertising in the digital space has become a full-time job! First, you have to figure out which platform is going to work best for you and your business and then you have to craft a message. What are you going to tell people that will resonate and grab their attention? Once you craft your message you have to actually create something. Do you have the skills to create a cool infographic that has good tips and tricks on your industry? Do you write a blog on the top 5 do’s and don’ts of your business? Or maybe you’ve got some editing skills and can create a short video educating your potential customer on the steps necessary to complete the task at hand? Regardless of your skill level, one or all of the above need to be done if you are going to survive in today’s digital advertising space. Let’s discuss where you need to be and what to do when you get there. So, we must first start with which platform(s) you need to play on. At digitalAIM Media, we suggest you start with just two platforms before tackling the entire herd. Here is a brief stab at who is on which platforms. Middle School, High School, College, and the “hip” folks of the late 20s can be found on Snapchat. On Instagram, we find all of the above along with the mid-30s and early 40s crowd who is more interested in looking at pictures and short videos of their friends and the brands they enjoy hearing from. Facebook is the catch-all. Nearly all age groups are represented on Facebook and that includes the 50+ crowd up into the early 70s. Facebook is full of grandmas and grandpas who want to see what their kids and grandkids are up to. Twitter users are most likely college educated and live in “The City” with a relatively even age distribution. LinkedIn is the last space you need to consider when selling B2C but the very first space to consider when selling B2B. Other platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, Reddit, Medium, Blogger, and so on are great places to house and share your content but you really don’t need one of these to do so. In regards to creating and sharing content our number one piece of advice is stolen from Nike, “JUST DO IT!” Although it is true that there is not a lot of time for a business owner to create content, the main reason you don’t is the fear of looking stupid or being judged. In reality, everyone wants to have the confidence to create video and tell people about what they do. This is why the response is so overwhelming! Video receives more comments likes and shares compared to a static post by 20%! Grab your phone, flip it around, and tell people what you do! I guarantee you will be happy once it’s done.
